Countdown Timer Ends or Starts Wrong Time

Symptoms

  • Timer shows 00:00:00 earlier than expected
  • Timer is off by several hours
  • Timer is off by exactly 1 hour
  • Time displayed doesn't match your settings

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Understand UTC timezone
    • SS countdown timers use UTC time (Coordinated Universal Time)
    • You must convert your local time to UTC before entering it
  2. Convert your desired end time to UTC
    • Example: You want the timer to end at 5:00 PM New York time
    • New York is UTC-5 (or UTC-4 during daylight saving)
    • 5:00 PM + 5 hours = 10:00 PM UTC → Enter Hour: 22, Minute: 00
  3. Double-check all date fields
    • Verify Year, Month, and Day are correct
    • Month format may vary by section (some use "01" for January, others use "1"
  4. Check for Evergreen/Daily Reset option
    • Some countdown sections have a recurring timer feature
    • If enabled, the timer resets daily at the specified time
  5. Save and refresh the page

Why Is My Timer Off by 1 Hour?

Daylight saving time changes can shift your UTC offset. Check the current offset for your location, not what it was last month.
